Abstract

A series of new Ln<subscript>14</subscript>-substituted polyoxometalates, H<subscript>27</subscript>Na<subscript>16</subscript>[(Ln<subscript>14</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)W<subscript>4</subscript>(OH)O<subscript>14</subscript>)(WO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>4</subscript>(GeW<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>38</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>]·nH<subscript>2</subscript>O (nā‰ˆ 86) (1-Ln, Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er), which contain 14 Ln<superscript>3+</superscript> and 6 {Ī±(1,5)-[GeW<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>38</subscript>]<superscript>12āˆ’</superscript>} units, has been synthesized in one-pot reactions. As the first 14-Ln-containing polyoxometalates, the octahedron-shaped three-shell structure of the [(Ln<subscript>14</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)W<subscript>4</subscript>(OH)O<subscript>14</subscript>)(WO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>4</subscript>(GeW<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>38</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>]<superscript>43āˆ’</superscript> polyanion is made up of a W<subscript>4</subscript> tetrahedron, a Ln<subscript>14</subscript>W<subscript>4</subscript> tetrahedron and a Ge<subscript>6</subscript>W<subscript>60</subscript> octahedron. Compound 1-Dy exhibits frequency dependent magnetic properties. Compounds 1-Eu, 1-Tb and 1-Dy exhibit the characteristic emission bands of the Ln<superscript>3+</superscript> ion.
