Abstract
- California is, indeed, a marvelous land, beyond anything the passing tourist can ever know, and many of its people are among the choicest fruits of human evolution. All this only accentuates the bewilderment and bitter disappointment which must be felt by any thinking man at the social barbarism of California, provided he has any knowledge beyond what the pitiful public press gives of their ignorance, their intolerance, and above all their complacent social inertia. California's race problem is a reflex in its major features of the older and more obvious race problem of the South.
