Abstract
- The article presents the author's views, on his trip to Great Britain. When I arrived in England, it had just become clear that the hopes raised by the swift rush of the Allied armies through France and Belgium were premature, that no early collapse of Germany could be expected, that the discomforts, the shortages and the strains of war must be endured for months to come. Moreover, it was apparent that the capture of the "rocket coast" bad not ended the dangers of war for the civilian population; southern England was still within range of the enemy's vengeance weapons and faced continued desultory bombardment. Disappointed but not discouraged, certain that victory was only postponed, Britons were bracing themselves for the sixth winter of war.
