Abstract

The article critically appraises the book "Reflections at Fifty," by James T. Farrell. The book is an instructive document, the record of an almost ludicrously earnest intelligence. Farrell considers his book as a collection of the most interesting of the literary and occasional essays he has written in recent years. The more purely literary phase of his education Farrell apparently got principally from two men, Sherwood Anderson and Theodore Dreiser, about both of whom he has written here with honest admiration and feeling.
