The article investigates the interaction of subjective and objective elements of memoirs on the example of such modifications as memoir autobiography and autobiographical memoirs. Subjectivity of memoir prose is interpreted as its constitutive element and the main determinant of the genre. Account is taken of the problematic nature of the classification of memoirs, the features and obstacles to using them as a historical source are also considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
