Abstract

This article presents information, related to socio-political conditions of the U.S. In two earlier pieces in this space, authors examined some reasons why it is becoming mandatory for the U.S., to plan a new and vastly more effective role for itself in helping to advance the economic, social, and political progress of the many millions of people dwelling in various colonial, excolonial, and other underdeveloped areas of the world. Paradoxically this challenge seems to become more acute as the fear of atomic war recedes. The U.S. Department of Justice's position that the accused is not entitled to face his accuser in loyalty-security cases has been badly shaken by the decision of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals enjoining enforcement by the coast guard of its "screening" regulations. Washington's foreign trade practices continue to be in glaring contrast with official pronouncements.
