Abstract

The article discusses faith and politics. No one who is familiar with the Protestant denominations in the United States will expect to discover the Protestant position on anything important, not even on the Vatican. It is of the essence of the Protestant faith that the individual conscience is supreme. On all matters of political and social policy, this means that the church may furnish guidance but no directives. Only among the small sects which maintain a group testimony and discipline, is there anything approximating a corporate position on political and social questions.
