Abstract

The article focuses on the literary style of the author, Arthur Symons. His work "The Symbolist Movement in Literature," is described in "The Background of Modern Poetry, "by J. Isaacs as forgotten and no longer necessary, but in its time epoch making. It has indeed lost its original use as a guide and leaven, but Mr. Isaacs still quotes from it at length. Symons' personal acquaintance with the French symbolists gives his book permanent vitality, and his style gives it charm. Some of Symons' statements have been corrected. Issac's six essays are lucid, perceptive and good introduction to modern poetry.
