Abstract

This article analyses the utility of granting honorary degrees by universities in the U.S. All experts and authorities on the subject agree that there are several reasons for the granting of honorary degrees, and all agree that the first reason alone is truly innocuous, pedagogues simply love to honor one another. Another reason involves an even greater descent into infamy. Honorary degrees are granted to rack up prestige points. Once on the trail of kudos, even the most dignified educators behave like Washington hostesses hissing in their kitchens.
