Abstract
- Canada, a half-continent in search of an identity, is becoming increasingly nationalistic and the new nationalism has a strongly anti-U.S. flavor. In the mid-1960s, Canadians could still debate the merits of remaining independent of joining the U.S. Now, such discussion is inconceivable. It is not simply that many Canadians have been repelled by the war in Vietnam and frightened by ghetto riots. To be sure, these events have soured the Canadians even as they have many Americans — although, it must be added, affection and admiration linger north of the border.
