Abstract

The article traces the history of the social aspects of horses after the civil war in the U.S. Topics discussed include the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, known as the Chicago World's Fair; importation of Asil Arabians horse breed to the U.S. from Syria by the Hamidie Society; the horse race Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show and Congress of Rough Riders of the World; and the launch of thoroughbred racing in Chicago, Illinois called the 1893 American Derby.
