Abstract

The article focuses on the U.S. motion picture industry which centers around Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Author's first trip to Hollywood occurred when he was twenty and impressionable. He thought at the time that Los Angeles, especially the Hollywood was Paradise Regained with glamorous moving picture stars thrown in for good measure. He had driven with three friends of his across the vast and varied country. The friend who owned the car in which they made the trip was an African American Legionnaire. Hollywood, is a Southern-oriented city, as is all of Greater Los Angeles. This statement should surprise no one, since Hollywood, more than any other institution, has been responsible for the glorification of the South, past and present, and for creating the image of black inferiority.
