Mutations Left and Right.

This article discusses about the significant political changes happening in West Germany since two decades. The symptoms have been evident for some time, sparked by the good-natured unwieldiness of "Grand Coalition" government of the past two years. This has been a political version of the old Charles Atlas advertisement in which two big guys, in this case the Christian Democrats and the Socialists, ganged up to run things at the expense of the 98-pound weakling, the opposition Free Democrats. The Grand Coalition was in itself something of a change in that the Socialists for the first time in postwar history gained a share of executive responsibility.
