Abstract
- The article examines the effects of isolation on the courtroom narratives of slave ship captives in older days and asylum seekers in the present era as of September 2017 by comparing the experiences of the captives aboard the slave ships Antelope and Amistad in the 19th century and the asylum seekers at present. Also cited are the power and persuasiveness of the narratives of the captives when sought by judges, the public and counsel, as well as the adverse effects of detention or isolation.
