Abstract

The authors discuss the application of user-centred research design and evidence by a social robotics team in Australia to form and guide the use of technologies in aged care, including robots. Topics mentioned include the shortage of young people to offer informal care, the concern of replacing human caretakers with robots, and the development of social robot trials using a baby harp seal called PARO for a therapeutic purpose.
