Abstract
- In recent years, N‐heterocyclic carboxylate ligands have attracted much interest in the preparation of new coordination polymers since they contain N‐atom donors, as well as O‐atom donors, and have a rich variety of coordination modes which can lead to polymers with intriguing structures and interesting properties. A new two‐dimensional coordination polymer, namely poly[[μ<subscript>3</subscript>‐2,2′‐(1,2‐phenylene)bis(4‐carboxy‐1<italic>H</italic>‐imidazole‐5‐carboxylato)‐κ<superscript>6</superscript><italic>O</italic><superscript>4</superscript>,<italic>N</italic><superscript>3</superscript>,<italic>N</italic><superscript>3′</superscript>,<italic>O</italic><superscript>4′</superscript>:<italic>O</italic><superscript>5</superscript>:<italic>O</italic><superscript>5′</superscript>]manganese(II)], [Mn(C<subscript>16</subscript>H<subscript>8</subscript>N<subscript>4</subscript>O<subscript>8</subscript>)]<subscript><italic>n</italic></subscript> or [Mn(H<subscript>4</subscript>Phbidc)]<subscript><italic>n</italic></subscript>, has been synthesized by the reaction of Mn(OAc)<subscript>2</subscript>·4H<subscript>2</subscript>O (OAc is acetate) with 2,2′‐(1,2‐phenylene)bis(1<italic>H</italic>‐imidazole‐4,5‐dicarboxylic acid) (H<subscript>6</subscript>Phbidc) under solvothermal conditions. In the polymer, each Mn<superscript>II</superscript> ion is six‐coordinated by two N atoms from one H<subscript>4</subscript>Phbidc<superscript>2−</superscript> ligand and by four O atoms from three H<subscript>4</subscript>Phbidc<superscript>2−</superscript> ligands, forming a significantly distorted octahedral MnN<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>4</subscript> coordination geometry. The Mn<superscript>II</superscript> ions are linked by hexadentate H<subscript>4</subscript>Phbidc<superscript>2−</superscript> ligands, leading to a two‐dimensional structure parallel to the <italic>ac</italic> plane. In the crystal, adjacent layers are further connected by N—H…O hydrogen bonds, forming a three‐dimensional structure in the solid state. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
