Abstract
- The present is practically definable and defined through the notion of interculturality. In the last two decades, the philosophical reflection of this matter has often been analysed in the context of current geopolitical processes. This article discusses the forms of manifestation of these topics in Slovak philosophical literature and the increasing frequency of their occurrence. It focuses on the period from the formation of philosophy of culture in the community of Slovak philosophers (its onset can be situated to the 19<superscript>th</superscript> century, initiated by the protagonists of the Slovak national revival) until the period characterized by the study of interculturality, which was marginal at first, yet it has now become particularly goal-oriented. Just like in other European countries, this topic is predominantly manifested in relation to the notion of the theory of multiculturalism and transculturality, with the conception of cultural pluralism being its general base. This topic is often correlated with the analyses of the processes of globalization and with their impact on the national, or even regional and local cultures. Subsequently, the intercultural and interreligional dialogue, the ethos of intercultural communication and the consequences for the creation of cultural and intercultural identity are thematised. The crisis of identity/identities is studied as well. The facticity of the cultural diversity evokes a range of issues, such as the manner in which the philosophy of interculturality alters the understanding of gender problematics, the issue of the aging of European population, but also the conversion of some social stratums to the culturally homogenized society of consumption and amusement. The paper focuses on several problems selected from a wide range of different topics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
