Abstract
- The paper is called symptomatically: Gadamer and Heidegger's way. It's talking about the complicated philosophical relationship between the teacher and his student, between two philosophers with slightly different ways of thinking and a very different ways of life. In the contemporary thinking Heidegger is definitely considered as a very controversial author. He has as many followers as critics. Gadamer places himself somewhere in-between. Although there are several places, where Gadamer declares not to be an admirer and follower of Heidegger and where he expresses critical statements towards the Heideggerian philosophy, his criticism persists mild and very diplomatic, the fact that some authors perceive as a kind of opportunism. So how can be characterized the position of Gadamer towards the thinking and the personality of Martin Heidegger? We definitely agree with Gadamer when he says that Heidegger before and Heidegger after Kehre is always one and the same. He is a pragmatist with poetical language; he is a violent thinker, with the capability to discover just by the way the deepest truths, meanwhile he's trying to conceal the incapability to think without the language of metaphysics. Gadamer emphasizes the moment that Heidegger's critics and his followers have in common. It's an effort to understand who exactly was this man. He was always on his way towards the question of being, on the way leading into the middle of nowhere. But despite of that all, Heidegger, according to Gadamer, showed us how to find and how to follow the reason in apparently irrational formulations reminding us of the fact that philosophy is more than just logics. Heidegger's way of thinking and his way of life had many serpentines. Sometimes he found himself lost and sometimes he took the wrong direction. However, sooner or later his way has to cross the route of every philosopher. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
