Abstract
- The article reports on various developments related to sociology and community. American Academy of Arts and Sciences' committee on space efforts and society received a grant of $181,000 from the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Agency to investigate the reciprocal relationships between the space program and other aspects of social organization and to commission relevant research. Programs of fellowships and grants to individual scholars have been announced by the American Council of Learned Societies for the year 1962-1963. The programs are designed to advance research on a post-doctoral level in many fields including sociology with a predominantly humanistic emphasis. National Conference of Jewish Communal Service held its 64th annual meeting in Atlantic City in June to discuss social and health issues and their effect on Jewish life. Topics covered by specialists in health, welfare, education, and community planning included implications of extreme rightist activity for Jewish communities, church-state relationships and religion in public schools, worldwide Jewish-Catholic relationships, delinquency among middle-class adolescents.
