Abstract

History usually explains the tale of rulers and ruled ones. Writers and Historians have started focusing on developments of cities lately. Life on this globe has an evolutionary story of human and nature interaction and in the same manner cities appeared in connection to their interaction with human beings. The beginning, growth and future of cities are part of larger narrative of human development. Chishtian, a small city in Bahawalpur Princely State and now Bahawalpur Division, has also an evolving history of growth and development. This paper is an attempt to highlight various trajectories involved in making of Chsihtian a popular living place for the residents. Be it the influence of sufi saints, local and regional powers and elites or public services unfolding the shape of city down to the partition of India. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
