Abstract

ICT is seen as the electricity of the information age and its access to library and information science education as a key to the process of development. The modern library has changed its traditional face and functioning in a more innovative way in this age of information. A library as we know it today is the organized collection of books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, films, maps, prints, documents, microforms, CDs, cassettes, videotapes, DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, ebooks, audiobooks, databases and other formats. This paper highlights the phenomenal changes happened due to the advent of ICT in the functions of libraries. ICT has drastically changed the way information services are provided, so much that with the Internet, a library can access and organize information and information resources as much as necessary while library and information providers have been able to serve patrons not only face to face but also virtually. Thus, technology has changed and allowed ever new ways of generating, storing, organizing and disseminating information. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
