Abstract

This article presents announcements and news related to various societies and universities in the U.S. as of December 1950. The Edward L. Bernays Foundation RadioTelevision Award, a $1,000 U. S. Government bond, will be presented by the American Sociological Society to the individual or group contributing the best piece of research on the effects of radio and/or television on American society. Presentation of this Award will be made at the annual meeting of the society in 1951. Any individual or group wishing to compete for the Award must submit in duplicate a report on their research on or before June 15, 1951. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Boston University announces that physician John Koty of Athens, Greece, has been appointed Visiting Professor of Sociology for the academic year 1950-51. Announcement is made concerning fellowships and grants to be offered by the Social Science Research Council during the year 1951. The categories of awards and the applicable regulations will be essentially the same as in 1950. January 15, 1951 will be the closing date for receipt of applications or nominations for all categories of awards to be made in the spring of 1951. This departure from the previous practice of setting different dates for the several categories has been made in order that preliminary interviewing of candidates may be carried out more systematically.
