Abstract

Transnational Global Health programmes planned and financed in theNorth and executed in the Global South usually involve some transfer ofcapacity between sites or capacity building in place. Capacityinvestment in the form of skills, knowledge, experience and equipmentis often assumed to ‘flow' between countries, laboratories andinstitutions, following the trajectories of mobile subjects in theknowledge economy. Drawing on in-depth interviews with Danish andEast African scientists, this paper considers the mobilities that underpinscientific capacity building, drawing attention to the paradoxical in waysin which these programmes produce stasis and fixity, as well as mobilityand exchange.
