Abstract
- This article presents the highlights of the 2003 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Circuits and Systems Society Awards ceremony held at the Hyatt Hotel in Maui, Hawaii on December 11, 2003. Theodore Djaferis, vice president of Member Activities, presented the Outstanding Chapter Award. This annual award recognizes a Chapter for demonstrating a very high level of activity, innovation or growth. The award went to the Greece Chapter in recognition of their high level of activity to revitalize the Chapter. there are three paper awards presented at the event. The IEEE Control systems Magazine Outstanding Paper Award was given to Danny Abramovitch and Gene Franklin for their paper titled A Brief History of Disk Drive Control. The study Effects of Control Structure on Performance for an Automotive Powertrain With a Continuously Variable Transmission, by Sharon Liu and Anna G. Stefanopoulou, received the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology Outstanding Paper Award. The George S. Axelby Outstanding Paper Award was given to Christopher I. Byrnes, Tryphon T. Georgiou, and Anders Lindquist for their paper titled A Generalized Entropy Criterion for Nevanlinna-Pick Interpolation with Degree Constraint.
