Abstract
- The Distribution and Objects in CASE (DOCASE) was established to identify fundamental elements of a method approach. Distributed object-oriented programming languages have proved to be superior to other known approaches for the development of complex distributed applications. The DOCASE project addresses the major difficulties in using distributed object-oriented technology. Three particular problems and their solutions developed in DOCASE are discussed in this article, which are, common representation of design artifacts and their implementation, modularization of algorithms by separating dynamic distribution aspects from application algorithms and guidance throughout the design process. These three approaches together provide a unique level of design and implementation support for complex distributed applications. The article presents a unique level of design and implementation support for complex distributed applications. The methodic approach described in this article can only represent one small step toward a more adequate software technology for distributed applications.
