Abstract
- An efficient synthesis of unsolvated KB<subscript>3</subscript>H<subscript>8</subscript> was achieved by the reaction of a liquid K–Na alloy with BH<subscript>3</subscript>·THF at room temperature. KB<subscript>3</subscript>H<subscript>8</subscript> was found to release hydrogen and minor boranes by subsequent cleavage of its B–H and B–H–B bonds during pyrolysis, and yield K<subscript>2</subscript>B<subscript>12</subscript>H<subscript>12</subscript> as a major product.
