Abstract
- A new metal–organic framework, [Zn<subscript>3</subscript>(μ<subscript>3</subscript>-OH)(tzba)<subscript>2</subscript>(bpy)(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)]OH·DMF (1), was solvothermally synthesized by employing tetrazolate-carboxylate 4-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl) benzoic acid (H<subscript>2</subscript>tzba) linker and 2,2′-bipyridine (bpy) chelating coligand. 1 contains novel Zn<subscript>6</subscript>(μ<subscript>3</subscript>-OH)<subscript>2</subscript>(μ<subscript>2</subscript>-H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>2</subscript>(COO)<subscript>4</subscript>(N<subscript>4</subscript>C)<subscript>2</subscript> hexanuclear clusters and reveals a three-dimensional (3D) microporous supramolecular framework based on the stacked 2D layers. The highly polar pores cause not only strong affinity towards CO<subscript>2</subscript> molecules but also a significant selective adsorption of CO<subscript>2</subscript> over CH<subscript>4</subscript>. Meanwhile, the multiple binding sites for CO<subscript>2</subscript> in the framework were determined by Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations. 1 also shows strong blue luminescence from ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT).
