Ідея суверенітету українського народу в «Палінодії» Захарії Копистенського

The article is devoted to the analysis of the views of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist Zakhariah Kopystensky. Here is highlighted his report on the right of the Ukrainian people for the sovereignty. It was found out that the necessity for the Ukrainian people of their own statehood was deduced from their national and cultural uniqueness. It was established that Z. Kopystensky was one of the first scholars who understood people as an ethnic community and determined their belonging to the nation on the basis of their own choice. In «Palinodia», an outstanding scientist created one of the first variants of historical consciousness of the Ukrainians, outlining its historical origins, ethnic territory and historical mission. The concept of Z. Kopystensky about the ideal state system, which he imagined as a monarchy, was explored, but the monarchy on condition of superiority of church authority over secularism and the duty of the ruler to take care of the goodness of the nation. Z. Kopystensky ideas had a significant influence on the formation of the early modern Ukrainian nation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
