Abstract

The operational strategy of an African transmission system operator was evaluated for a future wind power penetration of 16%. We performed the analysis with the help of an economic dispatch simulation program (PLEXOS) and with help of a model to simulate the real time power balancing (KERMIT). The merits of our approach are the use of well-developed in-house tools (such as wind power forecasts based on the experiences of DNV GL), innovative procedures (dynamic spinning reserve) as well an appropriate interaction of those tools (real-time balancing and economic dispatch). This paper gives an overview of our approach and results for a case study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
