Abstract

A new organic–inorganic perovskite-type compound [(CH<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>PCH<subscript>2</subscript>OH][CdBr<subscript>3</subscript>] exhibits a ferroelastic phase transition at 339 K. Domain structures were observed and analyzed. The origin of the phase transition can be attributed to the motion or reorientation of the [(CH<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>PCH<subscript>2</subscript>OH]<superscript>+</superscript> cations and the displacement of Cd<superscript>2+</superscript> and Br<superscript>−</superscript> ions in solid-state crystals.
