Abstract

In this article, the author shares her experience of learning spoken Maya language and discusses disaster caused by Katrina hurricane in New Orleans. Topics include accessibility to food, shelter and safety provided by governors to people during hurricane; problems caused to people in Houston due to Hurricane Rita which resulted in traffic fleeing; and decision made by the people to leave city after hurricane due to factors such as employment and housing problems.
