Abstract

The relation between parental rearing behavior and cognitive distortions (according to Beck's theory of depression) in adult life has been examined in a sample of 185 depressed inpatients. Especially such parental rearing factors as rejection, maternal shaming and guilt-engendering, tolerance, affection and stimulating showed highly significant correlations with the factors depressogenic information processing, perfectionistic attitudes and self-esteem depending on the approval of others from the Dysfunctional Attitude Scale WAS). The results both confirm aspects of cognitively-oriented diathesis-stress models and of the integrative vulnerability model by Perris. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
