Abstract

Multilevel research design is nowadays widely accepted and implemented in various fields of academics. Especially in behavioral science research, this design is appropriate in the aspect of integrating theories across levels. This article explained that individual-level construct, collective construct and multilevel construct should be determined by variable variances from actual collected data. Levels of theory, levels of measurement and levels of analysis should be aligned appropriately to the levels of construct. Understanding nature of collective constructs is crucial and will lead to construct conceptualization, choosing models of measurement, conducting construct validation and interpreting analysis results based on the nature and measurement of collective constructs.
