Abstract

Crucible which is used in melting aluminum process repeatedly examined and had thermal cycles examination. The contact between liquid aluminum and the surface of steel crucible influences on the intermetallic material compound. This research will observe aluminum diffusion process on steel crucible surface during melting process aluminum without degassing. Aluminum diffusion process to the steel is intermetallic material compound a tongue-shaped. The intermetallic material compound can be detected to the steel that examined 10 thermal cycles. The obtaining intermetallic material compound are Fe<subscript>3</subscript>Al, Fe<subscript>2</subscript>Al<subscript>3</subscript>, and Fe<subscript>2</subscript>Al<subscript>5</subscript>. The domination of Fe<subscript>2</subscript>Al<subscript>3</subscript> can be obtained on experiencing 50 thermal cycles and 100 thermal cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
