Abstract

This article discusses on the role of workplace partnership as a union strategy. Trade union-management partnership is receiving greater attention in Great Britain employment practice and in the academic literature as growing number of trade unions and employers enter into formal agreements to build long-term relationships based on cooperation rather than adversarialism. Various writers and advocates of union-management cooperation have noted a number of specific benefits to union members and to the institutional interests of unions. At enterprise level, the union leaders were focused on workplace issues of immediate concern to the membership. They avoid being drawn into the battles fought in the wider political arena. Union-management partnership can be compatible with strong union organization. Indeed, recognizing the nature of the party's engagement in partnership relations, strong organization is essential to successful partnership unionism.
