Abstract

Rooted in the resourced-based view of the firm and the knowledge- based perspective, this study aims to examine the relationship between human capital and ambidextrous innovation, as well as the role of inter-organizational collaboration for innovation effectiveness. Specifically, we investigate the mediating effect of firm-specific human capital on the relationship between generic human capital and ambidextrous innovation and the moderating effect of inter-organizational collaboration on the relationship between firm-specific human capital and ambidextrous innovation. We adopt a longitudinal approach to test the proposed model by using two large innovation databases in Taiwan. Results indicate that firm-specific human capital and inter-organizational collaboration foster ambidextrous innovation performance. In addition, the level of inter-organizational collaboration amplifies the positive effect of firm-specific human capital on ambidextrous innovation performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
