Abstract

Multi-stakeholder initiatives (MSIs) are an important instrument to improve the social and environmental performance of global supply chains. However, they are often ineffective due to a lack of cooperation between stakeholders involved. We focus our inquiry around the question: what can focal firms and their stakeholders in global supply chains do to make MSIs successful and sustainable over time? Building on the idea of value creation for stakeholders, stakeholder mindset and stakeholder responsibility, we develop a model of value creation for MSIs in global supply chains that incorporates the complexity and diversity of the collaborative stakeholder network. In so doing, we contribute to research on both MSIs and stakeholder theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
