The article presents the text of a speech given by editor Victor Fischer delivered at the Mark Twain Circle Banquet. Topics of the speech included his initial involvement in the Mark Twain Papers and Project of the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkely, growing concern over the preservation of U.S. history, and transition of the Mark Twain Papers into a scholarly editing shop.
