Abstract

Despite significant chemical variations, all "amyloids" have 2 common denominators, positive Congo red slain which shows greenish birefringence (dichroism) and 6-10 nm straight, non-branching filaments. In systemic primary amyloidosis patients seem to have no other diseases, whereas sonic of them eventually develop multiple myeloma, that is, myeloma-associaied amyloidosis. Hyalinosis cutis et mucosae (lipoid proteinosis) is an autosomal recessive disorder of mucopolysaccharide metabolism, possibly related to lysosomal hexuronic acid.
