Abstract

Two series of Ln-Mn<superscript>II</superscript> heterometallic coordination polymers (HCPs), [Ln<subscript>8</subscript>Mn<subscript>3</subscript>(µ<subscript>3</subscript>-OH)<subscript>8</subscript>(IN)<subscript>14</subscript>Cl<subscript>6</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>16</subscript>] <subscript>n</subscript>(OH)<subscript>2 n</subscript> ·5 nDMF ·8 nH<subscript>2</subscript>O {Ln = Gd ( 1); Ln = Dy ( 2)} and [Ln<subscript>2</subscript>Mn(IN)<subscript>6</subscript>Cl<subscript>2</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>4</subscript>] <subscript>n</subscript> ·2 nDMF {Ln = Gd ( 3); Ln = Dy ( 4), IN = isonicotinic cation}, were synthesized by using fractional crystallization and structurally characterized. Polymers 1 and 2 are isostructural and form a 2D double layer of [Ln<subscript>4</subscript>(µ<subscript>3</subscript>-OH)<subscript>4</subscript>] cubane and Mn(IN)<subscript>4</subscript>Cl<subscript>2</subscript> units, whereas 3 and 4 are isomorphic and form a four-connected cds-type 3D framework assembled from paddle-wheel binuclear Ln<subscript>2</subscript>(COO)<subscript>4</subscript> units and planar Mn(IN)<subscript>4</subscript>Cl<subscript>2</subscript> units. Polymers 1- 4 exhibited large magnetic entropy changes of 42.0, 16.7, 31.5, and 16.6 J kg<superscript>-1</superscript> K<superscript>-1</superscript>, respectively (Δ H = 7 T). In addition, compounds 2 and 4 displayed field-induced slow magnetic relaxation behavior. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
