Abstract
- An essay is presented which offers skepticism regarding subsidized economic research by the National Science Foundation (NSF). It questions the value of or need for NSF funding in economic research apart from existing resources provided by government and non-government agencies. It suggests alternative areas where NSF funding can be effectively used including data availability, prizes, and dissemination of economic insights.
