Abstract

This paper deals with the legal and social aspects of a child's life with regard to the legal regulation of the given issue in the Czech Republic. Social and legal protection of children means ensuring a child's right to life, its positive development, parental care and family life, the identity of the child, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, education and employment and also includes protecting the child from any physical or mental violence, neglect, abuse or exploitation. Child protection, which is a broader concept than social and legal protection, includes protection of an extensive set of rights and legitimate interests of the child and is therefore regulated in different areas of law, and in the legal regulations of various legal forces. It is thus the activity of a number of authorities, legal entities and individuals, depending on their competence. Quality of life is a multidimensional concept that can be described and defined from several points of view, depending on which approach examines the quality of life. Firstly, quality of life of children depends on the quality of life of their parents. Conflicts in families are handled by the authority for the social and legal protection of children, which acts in the interest of the minor in all areas of his/her life. We encounter the terms "quality of life" at various levels and in various situations. The concept becomes serious if it is associated with scientific disciplines; their conceptual apparatus is also described and placed into the necessary relationships. In addition to the theoretical level, this paper also discusses practical implications in the form of the activities of the authorities which cover institutional protection of the quality of life of a child. In the Czech Republic, such agencies are the aforementioned social and legal child protection authorities and courts. The paper is based on an analysis and comparison of scientific literature, legal regulations and related case law. Mainly qualitative methods of approach to research will be used in the paper.
