Abstract

This study describes economic information in Indian newspapers in relation to right to information (RTI) and the Indian RTI Act, by analyzing correlations between information provided through the Act and information in the Times of India during Indian presidential elections in 2012 and the "IMF crisis" of 2013. UCINET 6 was used to visualize connections between keywords. The results show that the economic information provided by Indian newspapers does not meet guarantees for provision of information under RTI, and that economic news articles deliver only imperfect information on foreign exchange and related matters, restricting their utility for people's economic behavior.
