Abstract

The authors reflect on the comments of doctors V. Snowdon and J. Fallowfield to their paper on measuring inflammatory and fibrotic components of portal hypertension. Topics discussed include the development in non-invasive diagnosis of portal hypertension, several methods to assess the fibrous/structural component of portal hypertension including transient elastography, Fibrotest, and shear wave elastography, and measurements of invasive hepatic venous pressure gradient.
