Abstract
- The author reflects on mandating more public space to create a livable city where the attachments and connections between people and place are both understood and fostered. He states that two sites in New York City-Manhattan's Times Square and Brooklyn's Marcy Plaza on Fulton Street-exemplify the challenges that a place-based approach aims to address. He mentions that Times Square teems with activity in a constant struggle between cars and pedestrians.
