Abstract
- This article presents information on the design and architecture of Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California. One of the architects proposed for the project, Frank Gehry, who was eventually selected to design the project, had long worked with the Philharmonic to enhance the Hollywood Bowl and had built two outdoor concert pavilions. A working budget of $115 million was established, but in fact no one at the beginning of 1989 knew what the real scope of the project would be. The Los Angeles design had to be reconciled with the county's desire to add revenue-generating components to the site. A parking garage was to be built under the hall. The final design was announced in 1991 and the project was put on a fast track to meet sponsor Lillian Disney's deadline for the late 1992 ground breaking.
