Abstract

The article narrates how Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of the French, attempted to conquer Moscow, Russia on September 7, 1812. Topics discussed include Napoleon's 600,000-strong army crossing the River Niemen and entering Russian territory on June 24, 1812. Also mentioned are Russian commander-in-chief Mikhail Barclay de Tolly retreating to preserve his 100,000-strong First Army, the Battle of Borodino on September 7, 1812 and Tsar Alexander's army winning the Patriotic War of 1812.
