Abstract
- Singapore's film distributors have been given the go ahead by the country's film censors to screen two versions of films under different classification categories. The dual ratings system, which took effect last week, is the first of a series of guidelines to come out of a review of Singapore's Board of Film Censors by the Media Development Authority, the government agency that oversees all of the country's government-related media activities. The film distributors will now have greater flexibility to serve different market segments. Under the plan, distributors and exhibitors will be allowed to advertise the second run versions once the first releases have finished, and the ratings have to be indicated prominently on all publicity material. The plan is one of various recommendations within Singapore's film censorship office to be implemented over time, the biggest of which is an entirely new film classification system, due to be introduced next year.
