Abstract

The article discusses the book Les revues d'économie en France, 1751-1994, edited by Luc Macro. This book presents a retrospective view of the main scientific journals published in France since the mid-seventeenth century. The introduction and the first part include five papers dealing with the historical importance of past leading publications, Journal des économistes, Revue économique internationale, and Revue d'histoire économique et sodale. The second part examines the evolution of active major general or specialized journals and their actual relevance; Revue d'économie polétique, Revue économique, Economies et sociétés, Annalees d'économie et de statistique, and Retue d'economie industrielle. In the conclusion, a round table extends the debate about the merits of the previous publications by including the relative impact of some other recent journals and the growing importance of the role of new technologies of information.
