NEW TACTICS IN FIGHTING FINANCIAL CRIMES: MOVING BEYOND THE FRAUD TRIANGLE.

Financial crimes are not new--they have been around for centuries. However, only in more recent times have we begun to explore and attempt to understand why they occur. We attempt to do this not simply for psychological understanding, but also to develop defensive strategies to prevent future financial crimes. In this paper, the authors discuss conditions typically present that allow persons within and outside the firm the opportunity to commit crimes.
